Canvaspop review

I got the Groupon coupon for CanvasPop and I had no idea what to print! Decided to get my logo and QR code to my website printed.

The order was shipped right away and I was quite happy to see these when I got home today. It came within a week of ordering! I thought it would take 2 weeks at least. The whole ’under-promise, over-deliver’ thing really does work.

I’m quite pleased with the quality as well. the actual file size of the QR code was small so I wasn’t too sure how it would turn out. Below image is the QR code that I used to order the canvas print. The final print is 12×12 so I’m very impressed with how it turned out.

I’d recommend CanvasPop to anyone who’s printing posters/canvas for their wall!

*above is the actual size file I used to create my 12×12 canvas art! Just a screen grab!

EI for self-employed Canadians in 2011

If  you are self-employed like me,  you may be interested in reading up on the changes in Employment insurance benefits for self-employed Canadians in the new year.

Beginning in January 2011, self-employed Canadians will be able to access Employment Insurance (EI) special benefits. There are four types of EI special benefits:

Currently, if you are a self-employed person in Quebec, you are already entitled to apply for maternity, paternity, and parental benefits through the Quebec Parental Insurance Plan. If you choose to participate in the EI program, you will be eligible to apply for EI sickness and compassionate care benefits.

Eligibility information

You can enter into an agreement, or register, with the Canada Employment Insurance Commission through Service Canada if you:

  • operate your own business, or if you work for a corporation but cannot access EIbenefits because you control more than 40% of the corporation’s voting shares; and
  • are either a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada.

Vincent Laforet’s FREE HD DSLR workshop #creativelive

CreativeLive (sponsored by B&H) is putting on a free weekend workshop in Seattle with Vincent Laforet on HD DSLRs such as the Canon 5dmk2.

It will be on all weekend at http://creativelive.com/live

Targeted for experienced photographers interested in producing video would GREATLY benefit from watching this. He is answering the most basic questions about video/audio.

Viewed by 1800-2000 people world-wide, today’s workshop (I missed the intro…) touched on the pros and cons of HD DSLRs, different types you can look at, Audio options, etc.

I believe it will be more advanced tomorrow and Sunday.

Red and White Ball 2010 (Toronto)

Rethink Breast Cancer is a bold and highly influential grass-roots national charity that supports young people affected by and concerned about breast cancer through innovative education, research, and support programs. They use creative and unconventional ways to communicate messages about breast cancer in order to transform attitudes, debunk myths, and reach women and men who feel unaffected by the breast cancer cause. Rethink is a new breed of breast cancer charity and plays an important role in expanding support for the cause. We urge you to learn more about Rethink Breast Cancer.

The event’s theme, Red & White, is derived from the deconstruction of “pink”, the colour traditionally associated with breast cancer, into its primary colours of red and white. The two neutral colours are symbolic of the hope and passion that fuel the relentless research efforts that will one day lead to a cure for this devastating disease. Thanks to the continued support and generosity of our guests and sponsors, Red & White has raised funds in excess of $75,000 for this worthy cause.

Technology – Voice on the go

Who doesn’t drive and text/talk now and then even with the cell phone ban in Ontario?

(not admitting that I did it, it’s a question!)

I first heard of Voice on the go as I was downloading new apps on my phone. I was told about Voice on the go and found out it was also a Canadian business. Below is the link to the Globe and Mail video.
